Lead Climbing Clinic

The SOU Rock Climbing Club is putting on a Lead Climbing Clinic on Friday night. The Clinic will begin at 6:30pm and will be held at the SOU Rock Gym. We will be covering all aspects needed climbing outside, and we will have a chance to evaluate peoples skills. Remember, once you have been approved by the club, you can check out the climbing gear the club has for your non-club climbing trips.

The clinic is free to the Climbing Club members and $5 to non-club members. So, put it on your calendar and tell your friends!

Also, remember to put the Climbing Clubs Bouldering Competition on your calendar for June 8th!!!

Climbing Club Registration

The climbing club's gear has been ordered and is on its way. We are getting enough gear to be able to go out and do some awesome sport climbing in our local area.
We had our first meeting on Sunday, and had a good turn out. We also had leftover pizza, so we could stand to have more people at our next meeting, so don't forget to spread the good word about the climbing club.
We are going to be offering the first club only climbing clinic this Friday. The clinic is going to be an introduction to lead climbing and lead belaying, and the clinic is going to start at 6:30pm. Hopefully everyone can make it down to the SOU climbing gym to participate. In order to participate we need to have your registration information completed. If you did not get the email that we sent out last night then tuff! Actually the registration info will be at the bottom of this page, so you will be able to copy and past it into word and then print it off, fill it out, and bring it in on Friday night. We will also have a couple copies with us down there for people who forget or are just lazy like me. If you cannot figure out the copy and paste email sourockclub@gmail.com and we will send you the packet via email.
The design for the club shirts is just about completed, which mean you will be getting that soon. Also, Rogue Rock Gym has agreed to give club members a discount and we will tell you all about on Friday. We are still waiting to hear back from The Ashland Outdoor Store, Mckenzie Outfitters, Great American, and Northwest Pizza.

Enjoy the rain and we will see you at open climb today from 11 - 2!

Funding Approved!!!!!

The ICC has approved the Rock Climbing Clubs funding requests! We are going to have a good chunk of change to revamp the gym, buy gear, and go on trips with. Our next step is to put together the calendar of events, order supplies, and order gear for trips.

We are going to start with a Club meeting (date and time TBA) that will finalize the calendar of events and location of trip.

Budget Is In

Our budget was submitted to the ICC on Friday for approval. We will now be holding club meetings to plan trips, gym maintenance, and a bouldering competition for spring term. Our first meeting will be posted on the blog and we will also send out emails to the people who have submitted their email address to us.
With this being our first term as an official club we are requested a large amount of money, so we can get off the ground and get some gear, and so we can upgrade our training facility so we can be better prepared for outdoor climbing. We are also asking for an array of safety/climbing gear for outdoor climbing.
Keep your fingers crossed and pray we are able to get all the gear we need to go outside and climb. We would like to take a couple trips to Greensprings and then a trip to Smith if we can get enough funding.

Save Face!

If you are interested in the Southern Oregon University Rock Climbing Club and are on Facebook then check out our group: SOU Rock Climbers!

All Most There

Sean, Ryan, and Travis met last week and got all the important documents signed and filled out. And, with the names that everyone gave us we have enough people to start the club. We will be turning in the paperwork by the end of the week.

For the rest of Winter term we will be planning and preparing (don't worry we will be climbing as well) trips for spring term and once we get ICC funding.

As soon as all the details of the club are worked out we will let you know!
